Itinerary The 3-Day Fes to Marrakech
Day 1: Fes – Middle Atlas – Ziz Valley – Merzouga
Your 3 Days Fes to Marrakech Desert Trip begins with a departure from Fes, heading into the Middle Atlas Mountains. The first stop is Ifrane, often referred to as the “Little Switzerland” of Morocco thanks to its European-style architecture and clean surroundings.
Continue toward the cedar forests, where Barbary macaques roam freely among the trees. The journey then leads to Midelt, known for its agriculture and mineral resources, where you’ll enjoy a lunch break.
In the afternoon, travel through the scenic Ziz Valley, filled with palm groves and small villages. Several panoramic stops allow you to admire the contrast between green oases and arid landscapes.
By late afternoon, you’ll reach Merzouga, at the edge of the Sahara Desert. From here, a camel trek takes you across the dunes at sunset. Arrive at your desert camp for dinner and spend the night under a clear, starry sky.
Day 2: Merzouga – Erfoud – Tinghir – Boumalne Dades
Start the day early to witness the sunrise over the dunes, followed by breakfast at the camp. Return by camel and continue your journey toward Erfoud, a town known for its fossil workshops and unique stone craftsmanship.
Drive through small villages to reach Tinghir, an oasis surrounded by palm groves. Nearby, visit the impressive Todra Gorge, where towering cliffs create a spectacular natural setting.
In the afternoon, head toward Boumalne Dades, passing through scenic valleys and rugged landscapes. Explore the Dades Gorge, famous for its unusual rock formations and winding roads. Dinner and overnight stay take place in the Dades Valley.
Day 3: Boumalne Dades – Rose Valley – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech
After breakfast, continue your 3 Days Fes to Marrakech Desert Trip through the Rose Valley, known for its rose production and annual festival.
Travel onward to Ouarzazate, often called the gateway to the desert and recognized for its role in international film productions. Then visit Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO-listed fortified village admired for its traditional earthen architecture. Walk through the ancient ksar and take in the surrounding views.
After a short break, begin crossing the High Atlas Mountains. The road winds through mountain passes and Berber villages, offering beautiful viewpoints along the way.
